Jones on Technology

 

A few years ago I was talking to one of the staff in my Taipei Office when I glanced down onto his desk and saw a magazine called T3 . I picked it up and said dismissively “Oh what’s this a magazine for geeks and techies” I flicked through the magazine nonchalantly until I reached the section which listed the top products in each of the categories mobile phone , AV, Camcorder

I found myself mouthing the following phrases “yeah I’ve got that one , yep got ones of those ….yes I have both of those “  it suddenly dawned on me that T3 was in fact a magazine of essential technology devices for serious people who need to be ‘tech enabled’.

It was the only conclusion I could logically come to as a sophisticated 20 year veteran commercial technologist who has been there got the tee shirt and made the video. Either that or I would have to admit that just like every other bloke I suspend my disbelief when I see something new and shiny with buttons to press.

This made me think about what technologies and devices do really work for me and which should join my Apple Newton in the drawer after 3 weeks of use .

Slingbox is the most significant £70 I have spent on a gadget in the last 2 years.

It allows me to watch my SkyTV (or any home media) over the internet on my Laptop PC. that I live away anywhere in the world at any time.
