Xpdia wireless accelerator

I completed a term as Centre Director of Xpdia Wireless Development Centre, UK’s first Telecoms Accelerator established by the UK government in association with industry partners to develop the next generation of mobile applications companies. Xpdia is part of a regional strategy for development of a global centre of excellence. Xpdia commercial activities combine Handset feature development, Value Added Services delivery, WiFi and wireless LAN network deployment, carrier class server solutions, development of Bluetooth pen based solutions for secure signatures with the delivery of wired and wireless telecoms solutions.

 

Key Successes

· Established Xpdia as the hub of a regional centre of excellence for telecommunications including University R&D, Local and National government, content partners and telecoms industry partners

· Establishment  of the International Centre for Digital Content with Mersey TV and John Moores University.

· Creation of ‘Wireless Warrington’ a sub-regional strategy to reposition the town of   Warrington as a hi-tech wireless centre to support the creation of Omega a £600 million science park

· Winning the bid to locate the telecoms ombudsman’s office ‘Otelo’ in the region.

· xpdia was the UK’s first mobile telecoms accelerator sponsored initially by the NWDA, Warrington 2000+ and Business Link

· xpdia is part of an integrated solution to provide a mobile telecoms cluster based in the UK delivering the technologies and solutions for the mobile value chain

· xpdia offered a one stop shop for wireless value chain members to access features and applications required to deliver the value added services the industry requires to meet the challenge faced by the mobile telecoms market in the coming years

· xpdia is part of a regional strategy for development of a global centre of excellence, which has already achieved primacy in the UK and has established relationships with India, China, Israel, USA, Brazil and Australasia.
